Community Alliance Receives Journalism Award
We are already in October. When this newspaper hits the streets on Oct. 1, Mexico will have its first female president. Scientist Claudia Sheinbaum, from the same party as Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will rule the destiny of Mexico for the next six years.
Is this a preview of what could happen in our country next month? Are we finally going to have a woman as president? In reality, what is at stake in the United States is much more than that.
The mere possibility that a misogynist, insulting, lying and childish-minded man could reach the White House (again) is chilling. On Nov. 5, the vote is in favor of keeping democratic institutions standing.
Of course, Democrats are far from perfect, but it is up to us, the citizens, to advance and consolidate democracy. Nov. 5 is not just another election; it is our present and our future. Improving our democracy is a daily responsibility, and we need to improve our selection of candidates, and once they are in office, we need to make those elected officials accountable.
Many people are unhappy with our government, but we can change certain things, pressure our elected officials and continue to fight. It is a completely different ballgame if we have a dictatorship, led by a maniac without moral limits. I can tell you this because I spent many years in a country ruled by a dictatorship.
On a brighter note, I am pleased to share with our readers that the Community Alliance received a journalism award in August for two articles that I wrote.
The award, under the “Foreign Affairs” category, was presented by California Black Media and Ethnic Media Services during the Ethnic Media Conference, August 27–28, in Sacramento.
These articles are part of a series titled “The Japanese Incarceration” that we produced from October 2023 to July 2024.
The two award-winning stories, “The Other Incarcerated Japanese” and “The Kidnapping of the Naganuma Family” (both in the November 2023 issue), were printed in English and Spanish.
This award makes us proud and motivates us to continually improve and better serve our community.
Till next month.

Dear Edwardo Stanley,
I read the funding for the art’s article “Thanks to Voters Fresno Supports The Arts” Article led by Lilia Chavez. October 1, 2024 It is positive that the arts “On Sept. 5, the Fresno Arts Council (FAC), led by Lilia Chavez, presented a $9.4 million check. A couple months back I suggested that journalists and photographers archive the murals in Fresno as cultural landmarks with the emphasis of the perceived whitewashing or defacing of art all over the city. Art Hop is a cultural showing of arts and now street vendors could be fined for sharing art. Artists Unhappy with City Involvement in ArtHop – Community Alliance (fresnoalliance.com) positive article by Noah Ortiz. I asked about Mural Artificing by the Community Alliance and no one has felt the need to do it apparently. It seems no one takes it seriously. We have lost many murals to them being painted over by building owners or the city. There has also been a significant depreciation of value of the mural art by graffiti, seemingly ruining their cultural artifacts. I find this saddening. Having studied Art History in College Art, it is a propellant in shaping society and culture and has been used to artifact time. I hope your inspired to allow some journalists to do a special on Murals as Time Artifacts in the City of Fresno.
Sincerely,
