History Will Be Kind to Jimmy Carter

After watching the wonderful documentary Jimmy Carter: Rock & Roll President, it is a sobering reminder of how special this man is. No question: Within 50 years or maybe much less, Jimmy Carter will be celebrated as the equivalent of a Protestant/evangelical saint.

History will recognize his genuine accomplishment of delicately balancing the imperatives of faith with public policy. In time, we will realize that the tenor of our present partisan comments is simply a symptom of a passing affliction of hyperpolarized acrimony.

Events will surely arise that will cause many more of us to behave like adults. In time, many more of us also will honor real human progress rather than ingrained biases and cherished political ideologies.

New Fresno County Sheriff Wanted

Local progressives interested in justice, public safety and equal protection are looking for a like-minded sheriff candidate to run against Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims in the 2022 election.

We need a replacement sheriff who can move the department in the direction of the Justice Department’s COPS (community-oriented policing strategies) standards.

If you’d like to be Fresno County sheriff and are thinking about entering the race, if you have your POST (Peace Officer Standards and Training) certificate, if you support SB 1421, the “Police Abuse of Force Transparency Act,” if you support civilian oversight of the police, if you support defunding the police as defined by the Black Lives Matter movement, if you believe social programs and community improvement reduce crime, if in other words you believe that public police agencies work for the whole community and not just for the 1%, then Fresno County needs you.

If you know someone in Fresno County law enforcement who you think is progressive and interested in running for sheriff, then please pass this along.
