Planned Destruction?

Democracy is in peril. Whether from Donald Trump, the Tea Party/MAGA/Republican Party, ambivalent independents or complacent (or willfully ignorant) Democrats, the future of our republic is in imminentdanger of being displaced with authoritarianism, or worse.

As the largest Democratic entity in the country aside from the DNC (Democratic National Committee), one would expect the California Democratic Party (CDP) to be leading the effort to save democracy. But that ainā€™t happening.

By all appearances, the state party is AWOL in this effort and the problem seems to be at the top.

Since becoming the state party chair, Rusty Hicks has done the following: moved from Los Angeles County to Humboldt County, passed the bar exam and teaches every week in a prison. These might be laudable actions for your average citizen, but Hicks receives a six-figure salary for heading the CDPā€”at a time of national crisis unparalleled since the Civil War. And heā€™s asleep at the wheel.

But it gets worse. Now, Hicks is running for the State Assembly in his new locale without stepping down as CDP chair.

With friends like this, who needs enemies?

America is at a crossroads, and it is imperative that the Democratic Party rise to the occasion.
