Central Valley Fuego played their first home game of the season at the Fresno State soccer field on March 16. Their opponent, Union Omaha, which must have appreciated the mild weather here, won 2-1.

This year, Fuego has a new coach, Jermaine Jones. His father is African American, and his mother is ethnic German. He had a brilliant career in the German Bundesliga, the English Premier League and American Major League Soccer. This season with Fuego is his debut as a coach.

There has been a big turnover with the players of Fuego. The author recognized only one player on the field March 16 as having played with Fuego last year, mid-fielder Mouhamed Dabo.

Because Fresno State is installing an emergency system in the stadium, there were only 1,000 seats for fans. The game was sold out.
