We are living in turbulent times, never seen before. We are experiencing the premeditated, intentional death of public services serving the populationāfor example, health and educationāwhile high-ranking officials use their work time and connections thanks to their jobs to pursue private business.
The President openly receives gifts from foreign governments worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Education is being attacked in open court, and there is even an open war against universities.
The destruction of Medicaid will have dramatic consequences for our society, especially for lower-income people (see āValadao Against His Communityā on page xx).
What has taken years and enormous effort to create is being destroyed at an accelerated and intentional pace.
This is not a āmistakeā or āignorance.ā Republicans in Congressāand in state governmentsāare busy pleasing the President at all costs, without the slightest concern for the well-being of the people they claim to represent.
These public officials lack sensitivity, and they openly demonstrate it. Their goal is to please their boss, no matter who pays.
For millionaires, all is well. Nothing new, only now itās more obvious. They rush to make their political donations knowing they will be compensated.
Decency has disappeared from the public scene. With these moral values, who needs education? More than ever, public education is essential. Will it flourish again one day? Will moral values āāand responsibility return to official duties? I hope so, but it all depends on us.
Till next month.
