The Reverend Sharon Delgado, Executive Director of Earth Justice Ministries, will speak on May 21 and 22 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1343 East Barstow Avenue, in Fresno. On Saturday, May 21, at 7 pm, she will offer a presentation on “Resistance and Hope: Challenging the System that Causes Climate Change.” According to Rev. Delgado, “Climate change is an unintended consequence of a global system that produces vast wealth and leaves poverty, inequity, conflict, and environmental devastation in its wake.” In this talk she will explore the reality of climate change, calls for climate justice and system change, global capitalism and toxic trade, the movement for global justice, and how individuals and faith communities can respond. Admission to this presentation is free. Donations will be accepted.
On Sunday, May 22, Rev. Delgado will lead a discussion during the 9:15 am adult class on the topic, “The System is Designed for the Results It Is Getting: An Overview of the Global Economy.” This will be based on her book, Shaking the Gates of Hell: Faith-Led Resistance to Corporate Globalization, which makes the case that the current global system of unrestrained free market capitalism harms the human community and God’s creation. At 10:30 am she will preach on “Transforming the Jericho Road” during the regular worship service. Everyone is invited to both of these events.
