The current issue of the Community Alliance newspaper contains a wide variety of stories that I am convinced are of interest to our audience. Besides the print version, our online version gets updated often as news comes in. But we are also devoted not only to keeping you informed but also having a dialogue with our community about the issues that impact our lives and social interaction.
With this in mind, last month we published an eight-page special section about climate change in cooperation with several local environmental activists and organizations. Based on this section, on April 21 we presented a virtual panel that attracted dozens of concerned members in our community.
Similarly, on May 8, at noon, we will have another virtual meeting. We are cosponsoring a presentation of the book Our Punitive Society: Race, Class, Gender and Punishment in America. Panelists will analyze the topic, and among them will be one of the book’s two authors, Dr. Morghan Vélez Young, a professor at Fresno State. To register, visit bit.ly/2PVfKI5.
Then, on June 3, at 6 p.m., the Community Alliance will cosponsor a presentation for the book Remembering Violence: How Nations Grapple With Their Difficult Pasts by Dr. Robin Maria DeLugan of UC Merced. More details and the link to register are forthcoming.
Last but not least, we are again on the air. Our radio show, Stir It Up, is back on KFCF 88.1 FM of Fresno, the first Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. The show is hosted by Amanda Tripp, who is also a member of our Editorial Board.
We are working more and harder to better serve our community. Of course, we would like to have your input about our newspaper and your much-needed support.
Until next month.
