SCHOOL BUDGETS

By Raymond F. Ensher

The recent forums put on by the Fresno Teachers Association were well done and most informative.

With an $800 million budget it is vital to implement the issues of class size and a nurse in every school in Fresno Unified School District.

Board members who do not support these particular students should be replaced. I commend trustee Carole Mills for expressing her concern and support.

I found when teaching (28 years) in the North Folk School District (now Chawanakee Joint School District) appreciated the full time nurse at the school. Additionally, the board always realized the importance class sizes. Because of smaller sizes, as teachers we had a closer understanding of the emotional needs of those in our charge.

If young people are truly our concern as a community, let’s act on it. It does make a difference in the lives of our young people.
