If you are homeless and living in Fresno (or anywhere in California), you are probably eligible to receive a free cell phone as part of a program run by the state Public Utilities Commission. If you receive food stamps, Medicaid, earn less than $14,702 a year or are enrolled in one of several federal and state programs, you can apply to receive a free cell phone.

To apply for your free cell phone, visit the Web sites of Assurance Wireless (www.assurancewireless.com/) or Reach Out Wireless (www.reachoutmobile.com/).

Hello, I would like to help the homeless people in my community by helping them get cell phones. I have used my own address to assist some people get “Obama phones” but this is unsustainable and the process requires the recipient hand over their ss#. There are many outdoor-living people who don’t have ss#s or won’t offer them. Is there a way I can phones into people’s hands through your organization?
