On Saturday, September 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Central Valley Immigrant Rights Movement Summit will be held at the offices of SEIU Local 1000, 1551 East Shaw Avenue. The summit is being spearheaded by the May Day Committee for Immigration Reform as an effort to strengthen and better coordinate the Immigrant Rights Movement here in the Central Valley. Through our experiences, we have learned that there are many individuals and groups throughout the area that have been working on this issue and would like to be part of a broader effort.
More than in prior years, our immigrant communities are under siege because people are opting to ignore the root causes of it and not handle the situation in a fair and humane manner. We believe that this is an opportune time for us to get together and discuss the movement’s past efforts, to evaluate the challenges in achieving those and to discuss how we could potentially work together to ensure that we continue the necessary next steps in the Central Valley Immigrant Rights Movement.
So please join us for a few hours on this Saturday to hear from us and each other on these topics. Lunch will be provided, and we are currently attempting to have a national immigration rights movement leader be our keynote speaker. Please send us an e-mail or give us a call to let us know that you will be attending.
