The five-month program includes EMT training and ride-alongs; life coaching, mentorship and job readiness and physical fitness training; a $1,500/month stipend during the program; and assistance finding a job after graduation.

Little Queer Libraries

Fresno’s Little Queer Libraries have more than 1,200 books at three different branches: the EOC LGBTQ+ Resource Center (1900 Mariposa St.), the Sylvia Rivera branch at the Casita Feliz Latine LGBTQ+ Center (1567 N. Van Ness Ave.) and the soon-to-open Dr. Alan Hart branch at the Fresno Center for Inclusive Medicine (3032 Tulare St.).

Misty Holder, owner of the Stylistmis salon, is the new volunteer head librarian. Holder is also a member of Strands for Trans, a group of stylists who offer safe, welcoming and affirming spaces for trans and gender nonbinary folks to receive haircare services and cuts.

The libraries need volunteers for several activities:

  • Inputting the $2,000 worth of books recently purchased into an electronic Library Catalog Staffing Open Library
  • Staffing hours at the new Dr. Alan Hart branch
  • Performing an inventory of the three current library branches
  • Helping to re-organize the shelving system
  • Recommending and finding new books to add to the library
  • Grant writing
