WILPF LIBRARY COMMITTEE GOES TO MALAGA,  WHERE THERE IS NO LIBRARY, WITH BOOKS

The WILPF Library Committee ended 2016 by paying a visit to the Arriaga Community Center in Malaga.  The Committee brought some 75 gently used books to the Center to help set up a library for their after-school Children’s program.  Books on science, dinosaurs, reptiles, poetry, sports and picture books were included in the collection.  Authors of the books included Shel Silverstein, Pam Muñoz Ryan, Jack Prelutsky, and Langston Hughes. Thanks to Mary Perich for the book donation!

Romana Campos directs the Center and is assisted by Elizabeth Tovar and Lupe Ríos.

We want to continue adding to the Center’s library, so if you have gently used children’s books to donate, please phone Ann Carruthers, (559) 243-9390 for pick-up.

Malaga has no branch library at all, and no school library.  The Recreation Center director has made inquiries and has been informed that Malaga is on a waiting list, behind other library needs including Clovis Branch Library’s move to another building.  Students in the local school have no access to library books or computers unless they have transportation out of town. The bookmobile doesn’t even go there. Tell your county supervisor and Fresno County Public Library: Branch Library  for Malaga! Photo credits Sandra Ríos Balderrama
