SAVE THE DATE! CRAFTS FAIRE DECEMBER 12

WILPF’s treasurer Jay Hubbell has accepted the responsibility for vendor outreach and coordination this year. The long-serving past chair of the Peace Crafts Faire, Nancy Waidtlow, will be sending out an email letter of introduction to our past vendors alerting them to the change. Jay may be contacted at jayhubbell@comcast.net, at his landline phone (559)292-4905, or at WILPF, PO Box 5114, Fresno CA 93755.

Every effort will be made to give preference to long-time vendors as to their placement within the First Congregational Church (the Big Red Church) complex of spaces. The rental agreement has been finalized except for the event insurance, which will be forthcoming some time in October. Vendors should expect that the fee schedule will remain the same as last year. Vendors will mail their remittance checks to WILPF at PO Box 5114, Fresno CA 93755.

Remember, this year the Peace Crafts Faire will be on the SECOND Saturday in December, the 12th.

Kyla Mitchell will continue to coordinate volunteers, the kitchen staff and publicity. Ingrid Carmean will return to town in time to assist with physical setup and coordination on the day of the Faire.

JAPA CHILDREN’S AWARD BOOKS PRESENTED

Seven members of the Fresno WILPF branch visited the Cedar Clinton library on July 10 to donate two sets of Jane Addams Peace Association Children’s Award books to the library. The 2012 award-winning books as well as the 2014 books were donated, twelve books in all.

Connie Urquhart, Principal Librarian of Public Services for the Fresno County Library, welcomed the group and received the books. Also attending were Laura Fleek, Cluster Librarian of the Sierra Gateway Cluster; Krista Riggs, the Cedar Clinton Librarian on site; and Erica Bird and Nancy Bird, members of the Friends of the Cedar Clinton Library. This event was also captured by ABC30 TV.

The Fresno WILPF also donated sets of the 2014 award books to the Main Library in downtown Fresno and to the West Fresno Library.

Jane Addams Children’s Peace Award books address themes or topics that engage children in thinking about peace, justice, world community and/or equality of the sexes and all races. The books must also meet conventional standards of literacy and artistic excellence.
