Reliving Fresno’s Progressive Past

Reliving Fresno’s Progressive Past

If we don’t want the government (particularly the Trump administration) telling us what to think, it is time for a people’s history of Fresno. The Community Alliance is doing its part by making an archive of every issue we have published and making that available online in a digital format.

The Community Alliance newspaper is digitizing every issue since our founding in 1996. This archive project will provide the community, journalists and researchers access to what has taken place in Fresno’s progressive community over the past 29 years.

The archives reveal how political corruption, police brutality and the “tale of two cities” impact this community. The focus, of course, is what the progressive community has done to improve the situation. Changing the Fresno City Council from red to blue, standing up to the forces attacking the homeless and stopping some of the horrors we found in the Fresno County Jail.

We are also currently working with the Fresno State library to make the archive available through its network, which will provide access to even more people.

To access the Community Alliance archives, visit fresnoalliance.com/archives/. From there, you can search by month, category (such as homeless) or author.

The digitization of the Community Alliance archives is more than a technical achievement—it’s a bold act of resistance and remembrance. By preserving nearly three decades of progressive activism in Fresno, this project empowers citizens to reclaim their narrative, challenge institutional injustices and inspire future movements.

In an era where truth is often contested, accessible archives serve as a vital tool for education, accountability and hope. Fresno’s progressive past is not just history—it’s a living legacy, now open to all.
