In Need of a Cat Sanctuary

The greater Fresno area needs an affordable and accessible sanctuary for our exploding cat population. The only local sanctuary, The Cat House on the Kings, demands $5,000 per cat.

I realize that this issue, when placed in the horrible swirl of news from D.C. and Ukraine, may seem trivial, but it does matter greatly to those of us who have loved and been loved by nature’s enigmatic Felis Catus at some point over the past 9,500 years.

One advantage is that it would be a local cause that would, by its focus, be independent of the political spectrum. While no cats are purple, this is a cause with purple appeal.

There are a load of factors and unknowns to move this forward. One obvious step is to contact a variety of sanctuaries in California, Oregon and elsewhere to learn how they started and where they are today.

Among the readers of this newspaper, I’m confident we have the variety of skills necessary for the planning and development of such a project. To that end, I’m inviting people to e-mail sanctuary@cctnet.com with your name, contact information, a sentence about your background and skills, and suggestions for the next steps.
