This month, the Community Alliance has great news to share with you. We now have the resources to dramatically increase our circulation, reach farmworkers with an expanded Spanish-language section and put this newspaper into the hands of homeless people giving them the news they need to know about access to Covid-19 tests, inoculations and other related health needs. There will be more young voices in our pages and a more diverse board of directors at the Community Alliance.
These new initiatives are being made possible by grants from Building Healthy Communities and the Sierra Health Foundation. After years of financially treading water and then the pandemic, the Community Alliance now has the resources to expand and better serve the community.
We believe a vibrant and robust independent press is critical as we move forward and face the challenges ahead. The support from these two foundations will make it possible for us to reach more of the Valley’s disenfranchised residents with the information they need to live healthier and happier lives.
We will continue to provide a platform for community activists working for peace, social and economic justice. As our masthead says, the Community Alliance has been “the voice of the progressive movement since 1996.”
You are invited to join us as we celebrate a quarter century of turning this dream into reality. There will be music, food and good friends as we share an evening under the stars. This event will be held on Sept. 18 from 5 p.m. in Pat Wolk’s backyard (6661 N. Forkner Ave., Fresno).
With this wind behind our backs (the two grants), we are asking our supporters to build on this momentum by subscribing, donating, becoming a monthly sustainer, advertising and/or joining us at our 25-year celebration.
